Waxholmsbolaget - Stockholm archipelago public transports since 1869
Waxholmsbolaget founded in 1869. The name is thought Waxholms Ångfartygs Aktiebolag, but today used the popular form of handicraft name in most contexts, such as the Waxholmsbolaget website .
From the beginning there was nothing but steamboats in force. The first was called jetty. Over the centuries until the 1900s was often the boat most convenient way to get around the country. The roads were not much to hang the Christmas tree. There were many regular steamboat trades, particularly on the lake but also in the archipelago.
Waxholmsbolaget released into the public domain
Private Waxholmsbolaget became an early public interest. People depended upon the white boats to enter the islands. The company went through difficult financial periods, and it was often impossible to maintain timetables during harsh winters. Stockholm County Council had to step into with subsidies.
Since 1967 Waxholmsbolaget landstingsägt and is part of Greater Stockholm public transport. 1970 took over Waxholmsbolaget also the classic Djurgården ferries which run year-round between Slussen and Djurgården Skeppsholmen.
Forty boats and 270 bridges
